The youngest child found so far is Henrietta Marie Hassett, born on 19th August 1906:
Her baptism record reveals:
- Birth date: 19th August 1906
- Baptism date: 13th March 1925
- Baptism location: Christ Church, Jubbulbore
- Name: Henrietta Marie Hassett
- Parents: James and Martha Hassett
- Parents abode: Jubbulbore
- Fathers occupation: Engine Driver GIPR
- Priest performing ceremony: A.F.G. Wardell. Chaplain.
The striking aspect was that Henrietta was not baptised until she was 18 years old (1925). As previously stated, this was common practice in British India, for example, sometimes parents would baptise several of their children at the same time, rather than individually – there is no evidence of this with Henrietta. Baptism was also a pre-requisite for marriage in the catholic church, which may have been the motivation for Henrietta, although no marriage record has been found so far.
Henrietta’s baptism record confirms her parents names – James and Martha Hassett, parents abode – Jubbulbore, and father’s occupation – engine driver GIPR. Although, the latter contradicts the baptism record of Henrietta’s brother, Hubert Earle, which stated James Hassett as a retired engine driver. It may be the ‘retired’ part has been missed on Henrietta’s baptism record, or perhaps James came out of retirement – this seems unlikely in 1925.
Henrietta is the youngest daughter, and youngest child, of James and Martha Hassett to be found so far.
