In the centre of Tavistock Square, London, UK, sits the statue of Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948). Made by British sculptor Fredda Brilliant, the statue was gifted to London by the Indian High Commissioner in Britain in 1967, and unveiled by then Labour prime minister, Harold Wilson.

The plaque at the front of the statue reads:

THIS STATUE ERECTED UNDER AEGIS OF THE INDIAN LEAGUE BY THE MAHATMA GANDHI MEMORIAL COMMITTEE WAS UNVEILED ON THE 17TH MAY 1968 BY THE PRIME MINISTER THE RT.HON HAROLD WILSON M.P.
