This introductory episode of Cafe Irani Chaii is presented by Dr. Ali Irani and produced by Showmans Show moving pictures company a film by Dr. Mansoor Showghi Yezdi. Cafe Irani Chaii is a film that beautifully unfolds the story of the Iranians who came to India at the close of the 18th century in search of livelihood when famine had stricken the province of Yazd in Iran and started the chai and bun maska trend. [sic]

Mr. Mansoor tells the tale of his ancestors through [the] documentary film, “Café Irani Chai” and traces the journey of the Irani chaiwallas from Persia to the cafes of Bombay which serve the specially brewed tea and brun masko pao (a bread bun spread with butter- usually eaten dipped in strong Irani chai) in modern-day Mumbai. The Iranians, Mr. Mansoor says, blended in to India like “milk in tea” although he adds that in Iran, milk is not added to chai.
