Today the AIP #WednesdayWisdom series provides the beginning of the next set of official records. Following the death of Annie Gordon in 1894, Samuel Carey Gordon married Emma Violet Astridge. This post presents the baptism record of their first child, Gertrude Eveline Muriel Gordon (1896).

Samuel Carey Gordon and Emma Violet Astridge were married in 1895. A number of records have so far been discovered by the AIP revealing the children of Samuel and Emma. Searching through the various available resources their first child was Gertrude Eveline Muriel Gordon.
Gertrude was born on 15 November 1896:
Her baptism record further revealed:

- Baptism date: 30 November 1896
- Baptism location: R.C. Church of Sts. Michael and Joseph, Simla
- Name: Gertrude Eveline Muriel Gordon
- Parents: Samuel Carey Gordon and Emma Violet Gordon
- Parents abode: Simla
- Fathers occupation: School Master. St. Michael’s School
- Priest performing ceremony: Jr. [unclear] Lyons
Gertrude’s baptism record revealed that she was born on 15 November 1896 and baptised two weeks later on 30 November 1896 R.C. Church of Sts. Michael and Joseph, Simla, Bengal Presidency, India. The ceremony was performed by Jr. Lyons (first name unclear). Her parents, confirmed as Samuel Carey Gordon and Emma Violet Gordon, resided in Simla (Bengal Presidency), with Samuel’s profession stated as School Master at St. Michael’s School. This matches the previous records discovered about Samuel including the baptism records of his children with Annie Gordon (1862-1894). This record indicates a possible move of location by Samuel following previous records which stated his abode as Agra (see burial record of Samuel’s wife Annie Gordon (1862-1894) and the baptism record of his daughter Alice Irine Gordon (1893)).
Gertrude is the first child of Samuel and Emma to be discovered. Many more to follow.
